Autonomous drones reach incident scenes within minutes, giving Montevideo public safety officials a live view before they arrive.

San Jose, California (USA), Jun 24, 2026: FlytBase, Inc, a physical AI platform company, announced a new autonomous drone program for Uruguay’s Ministry of the Interior (MOI), in partnership with Uruguayan technology firm Timerix S.A. The deployment makes Uruguay one of the first countries in Latin America to connect detection to automated drone dispatch at this scale, giving Montevideo police a real-time aerial view of an incident as soon as it unfolds.

Minutes matter in a critical incident

The Ministry of the Interior is focused on improving how police respond to critical incidents across Montevideo. When an incident unfolds, reaching the scene quickly and with a clear view of the situation helps officers act safely and effectively. Montevideo already uses ShotSpotter, the city’s gunshot detection system active since 2023, to locate gunfire in real time. The new program connects those alerts to an automated drone response, making Uruguay the first to build such a program on top of an existing ShotSpotter network.

An autonomous drone program gives you the full operational picture, from the event that triggers it, to the nearest drone that responds, to awareness on the ground,” said Nitin Gupta, Founder and CEO of FlytBase. “That is what makes a citywide program like this possible, efficient, and safe.”

FlytBase runs the program’s drone operations. It coordinates autonomous flights across the city’s docking stations and streams a live aerial view to the command center within minutes. The platform is built with data sovereignty in mind. It offers on-premise, private cloud, and sovereign cloud deployment options, so public-safety agencies keep full control of where sensitive data lives. FlytBase meets SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, and GDPR standards, keeping critical public data secure to enterprise requirements.

Autonomous drone surveillance represents a fundamental leap for security in Uruguay, offering a faster, more precise, and efficient response,” said Federico De Hoyos, Timerix S.A. Drone as First Response is the present: today, we can deploy drones in seconds, assess situations in real time, and assist security forces. Within this ecosystem, the FlytBase platform is a key pillar, enabling the advanced drone management that makes this reality accessible.”

The Ministry of the Interior plans to use the deployment as a model for public safety agencies across the region.
