A few months ago, the Federal Communications Commission (“FCC”) added all foreign-produced UAS and UAS critical components to its Covered List of equipment — equipment that is deemed to present national security risks and can no longer receive equipment authorizations. The aim is to boost U.S. manufacturing of UAS, and reduce dependence on technology from other countries. There are three ways to get your UAS or UAS components off the Covered List, but the rules and procedures are complex and there is a lot to know. The White House also is developing ways to support domestic UAS manufacturing.
